DAVID D. PERLMUTTER is a professor at the William Allen White School of Journalism & Mass Communications, University of Kansas. He received his BA and MA from the University of Pennsylvania and his Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota. He has served as a Board member of the American Association of Political Consultants and now sits on the National Law Enforcement Museum Advisory Committee for its Media Exhibit. A documentary photographer, he is the author or editor of seven books on political communication and persuasion: Photojournalism and Foreign Policy: Framing Icons of Outrage in International Crises (Praeger, 1998); Visions of War: Picturing Warfare from the Stone Age to the Cyberage (St. Martin's, 1999); (ed.) The Manship School Guide to Political Communication (LSU Press, 1999); Policing the Media: Street Cops and Public Perceptions of Law Enforcement (Sage, 2000); Picturing China in the American Press: The Visual Portrayal of Sino-American Relations in Time Magazine, 1949-1973 (Rowman & Littlefield, 2007); (ed., with John Hamilton) From Pigeons to News Portals: Foreign Reporting and the Challenge of New Technology (LSU Press, 2007), and Blogwars: The New Political Battleground (Oxford, 2008) . He has also written several dozen research articles for academic journals as well as over 150 essays for U.S. and international newspapers and magazines. He writes a regular column, "P&T Confidential," for the Chronicle of Higher Education. He has been interviewed by most major news networks and newspapers, from the New York Times to CNN and ABC and most recently, The Daily Show. He is editor of the blog of the Robert J. RESEARCH ASSOCIATES (Present & past):
Misti McDaniel got her Masters in Mass Communication and Public Affairs at Louisiana State University. Her background consists of campaign communication and research. Her published work includes an article in Neiman Reports and a refereed paper at the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication. Misti’s undergraduate degree is from the University of North Carolina.
Tatiana Ruchkina got her Masters in Mass Communication and Public Affairs at Louisiana State University. She also graduated from the Far Eastern State University of Vladivostok, Russia, in 2002 with a bachelor’s degree in International Affairs. In May of 2006, she will receive her Master’s degree from the Manship School of Mass Communication at Louisiana State University with a concentration is Public Affairs. She is particularly interested in Internet communications. She has worked as a Public Affairs Assistant for ExxonMobil in Russia and in Baton Rouge, La. After her graduation, Tatiana would like to pursue a career as a Public Affairs professional in the oil and gas business.
Shearon Roberts got her Masters in Mass Communication and Public Affairs at Louisiana State University. A native of Trinidad and Tobago, Shearon participated in a Politics and Journalism program in Washington, D.C. where she reported for the Wall Street Journal. During the program she conducted interviews with candidates for 2006 election races, incumbent members of Congress, and their staff, on why politicians blog.
Nathan Rodriguez is currently working toward his Masters in Journalism at the William Allen White School of Journalism and Mass Communications at the University of Kansas. He graduated with Honors in Communications from the University of Kansas in 2002, during which time he was a member of the highly successful University debate team. He also holds a post-graduate degree in Paralegal studies.
